Century Center

Through a number of targeted interventions, the Century Center and the adjacent Londres building will be restored to their former glory. The existing canopy will be removed. The glass facades of the Century Center and Londres shops will be adjusted so that both buildings will once again stand on the ground. This way, the Century Center and Londres will be recognizable as two separate buildings on the Keyzerlei and there will be a clear entrance to the shops.  On the ground floor, the shopping centre will be replaced by retail units with their own front doors on the Keyserlei. On the first floor, there will be a central patio that can be reached by escalators and a lift. Three retail units will be located on the patio. The fourth unit is a food store with a terrace on the patio. Roof domes will be provided in the patio roof. The existing offices will be revalued. By joining the existing small patios -in both the Londres and the Century Center- daylight is brought into the offices. The Century Center becomes visible and can be experienced from the offices. On the ground floor, the shopping centre will be replaced by retail units with their own front doors on De Keyserlei.

The piers of the superstructure are extended into the plinth. The roof layer will be a mansard roof on the front side and the L-shaped elevation will be developed more compactly. The plinth will have a richer appearance and materialisation and will be attuned to the superstructure. The rhythm in the plinth will follow the rhythm in the superstructure and will be executed in natural stone in the colour of the superstructure.
