STACK, THE NEXT PHASE

On 2 September, following an appointment with the Building Aesthetics Committee (Welstandcommissie), the plan for the STACK residential tower on Rotterdam’s Müllerpier entered its next phase. Its 85 homes will be put up for sale on the property market this year, and all arrangements are being made to start construction in early 2021.

STACK is the impressive conclusion to nearly 20 years of development of the Müllerpier. The Müllerpier is the peninsula nestled between Parkhaven and Sint-Jobshaven on the west side of the Rotterdam city centre. The sculptural building, with its solid and stylish look, is the perfect match for this unique location. Its stacked and staggered brick buildings make it a fantastic representative of all the unique buildings on this peninsula of the Nieuwe Maas.

The impression made by this 75-metre high tower shifts based on the distance of the observer. For example, from extremely far away, STACK appears as a uniform sculptural tower, while from close up, it clearly consists of four separate stacked buildings. And an even closer view reveals the subtle use of material and colour. From inside the building, the meticulous attention to detail becomes apparent.

The CONIX RDBM Architects team has invested a tremendous amount of time and energy in this unique commission, which is why they are incredibly pleased by the Building Aesthetics Committee’s positive review.
